Plenty of T16 Devourer of Hope deaths look unfair until you replay the pull and notice the build walked in undercooked. A green trail clips your boots, a tail comes from off-camera, and the portal is gone. Get chaos resistance above 30%, reach 18,000 Armor or 55% Evasion with Wind Dancer, and keep Life plus Energy Shield over 5,000. Picking up Path of Exile 2 Currency for a missing defensive craft can be cheaper than burning six portals on a bad setup.
Green Volley, Bad Positioning
Phase one punishes panic rolls. When Devourer arches its back and flashes bright green, you have roughly 1.2 seconds before eight toxic projectiles fan out and start tracking. Stay moving in a tight circle near its side. Let the shots curve toward your current path, then roll through them just before impact. Don't roll on the first flash - you'll land with no i-frames when the projectiles arrive.
- Fight from the front-side quadrants, not directly behind the boss.
- If you stay behind it for 2.5 seconds, expect the automatic 180-degree tail sweep.
- Clear the heavy bleed from that swipe before standing in a toxic spit trail.
- Keep your roll available whenever the green back-glow appears.
The Burrow Is Where Runs Die
At 60% health, the intended play is simple: Devourer burrows, becomes immune to damage and every DoT application, then comes back up with a huge physical slam. Most players still dump skills into the ground or roll the instant they see dust. That wastes damage windows and puts them at the slam point. Watch the dust cloud instead - it follows your exact location while the boss tunnels. When it stops dead, count one beat, then use a full-distance dodge roll away from that frozen spot. Don't drift back toward the center until the outward ripple has passed.
Thirty Percent Means Burn It
The last stretch isn't a clean endurance test. At 30% health, Devourer gains 25% action and attack speed and starts leaking decay pools from its shell. Those pools keep spreading, so the arena gets worse every second. A cautious, sustained approach works only if your damage is already absurd. For most builds, save offensive flasks, maximum-damage cooldowns, and Vaal skill activations for this threshold. Hit 30%, create space once, then unload before the clean floor disappears.
Questions Before You Open Another Map
Can you ignore the tail with enough Armor? No - the bleed and the bad positioning still stack problems. Can evasion carry instead? It can, but only with that 55% check and Wind Dancer doing its job. If a quick gear swap is holding up the next attempt, cheap POE 2 Orbs can sort a resistance roll or flask upgrade. First check the three defensive numbers, then practice the delayed volley roll, then save every burst button for 30%.
