Two different readings on the same thin plastic packaging component do not immediately prove either a defective part or an inspection mistake. First confirm that the measurements describe the same feature under comparable conditions. Contact force, support and measurement location can change the shape presented to an instrument.

Match the feature and part condition
Check the drawing revision, dimension definition, units and sample identity. Confirm whether the part is free, assembled or restrained, and whether coating or another process has changed its condition. A diameter at one height is not necessarily the diameter at another. Agree the reference surface, measurement section and orientation before comparing results.
Check measuring force
Thin walls can deflect under contact. Review the instrument, contact geometry and applied force rather than assuming every handheld reading is comparable. Where force is not controlled or displayed, record the method and examine its repeatability. Mitutoyo's plastics metrology guidance discusses low-force and non-contact approaches to reduce deformation; neither is automatically suitable for every feature. Select a method that can measure the required dimension without unacceptable distortion.
Support the part without reshaping it
Record how the component is held and which surfaces contact the fixture. A clamp can squeeze a thin wall, while a different orientation may allow the part to bend. Use a defined support arrangement and repeat loading and unloading to check whether the fixture influences results. A method measuring a restrained condition must not be compared directly with a free-state requirement without agreement.
Repeat at the same location
Use a drawing callout or clear inspection sketch to identify the contact points. Avoid comparing a rim, rib or transition with an adjacent plain wall. Repeat readings and compare operators or instruments using the agreed method. Display resolution alone does not establish accuracy, and instrument calibration does not remove errors introduced by the fixture or technique.
Decide against the agreed requirement
If the difference remains, assess measurement uncertainty, the specified tolerance and the appropriate disposition with the quality team. Do not automatically accept the part after changing the method, or reject it solely because two readings differ. SamBound New Material Technology Company Ltd. supplies empty cosmetic packaging. Product information at sambound.com does not establish an inspection force, instrument specification or dimensional capability for a particular part; those need documented agreement.
