Colleagues,
I’m a practicing CRNA reviewing how different exam prep resources assess readiness for the CRNA/NCE, specifically the quality and clinical relevance of practice questions.
There’s no shortage of question banks and online platforms, but I’m interested in hearing critical, experience-based opinions on what actually aligns with the exam’s expectations rather than just volume of questions.
I’m looking for discussion around:
1. Question Design
-
How well did practice questions reflect the exam’s emphasis on clinical judgment and decision-making?
-
Were distractors realistic or obviously incorrect?
-
Did explanations add value or just restate facts?
2. Content Weighting
-
Which domains required more depth than you expected?
-
Any areas that prep resources consistently misrepresent in scope or difficulty?
3. Signal vs Noise
-
Which resources genuinely improved exam performance?
-
Which ones felt redundant, superficial, or overly academic?
4. Exam Execution
-
Time management approaches that actually worked
-
Techniques for maintaining accuracy during longer testing blocks
I’ve reviewed several question-based resources recently. While some are too basic, the one at https://www.prephow.com/crna-practice-test.html seems well-suited for beginners. I’m still trying to distinguish between tools that genuinely test critical thinking and those that focus mainly on recall. If you’ve taken the exam recently or have experience coaching candidates, I’d appreciate your insights.
Thanks in advance for thoughtful input.
